Mike graduated from Purdue University, with Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Science. Following graduation from Purdue, he worked as a Research Chemist in the field of Medical Diagnostics from 1978 – 1986, and in the field of Pharmaceuticals from 1986 – 1988. He received his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Mike began his career as a lawyer in 1988 at the Indianapolis Law Firm of Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Baker Daniels), where he practiced law in both the Environmental and Intellectual Property Law fields. He joined Boehringer Mannheim in 1990 as Assistant Patent Counsel, and after the acquisition of Boehringer Mannheim by Roche, became Chief Patent Counsel in 1998. In 2006, he was promoted to Vice President & Chief Intellectual Property Counsel.

Mike has been honored as an Indiana Super Lawyer in the field of Intellectual Property Law from 2005 – 2009. He has served on university advisory committees in the areas of law and science and has been a guest speaker at intellectual property law seminars and conferences. He currently serves as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association and as Roche’s representative for the 21st Century Coalition. He also served as Chairman of the Intellectual Property Section of the Indiana State Bar Association.
