Marilyn Hanzal is the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and Privacy Officer of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, the state association for the more than 200 hospitals and nearly 50 health systems in Illinois.

She previously served as the Associate General Counsel for The University of Chicago Medical Center for nearly fourteen years.

She served as the Vice President of Board of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys for four years, chairing the governance committee for a number of years, and was an active member of and co-chaired the University HealthSystem Consortium Privacy and Security Task Force for five years and the in-house attorneys and compliance officers’ council for six years.

Marilyn was the in-house lawyer for Weiss Memorial Hospital and University HealthSystem Consortium prior to UCMt.  She served as the Director of Graduate Legal Programs, the Director of the Health Law Institute, and a faculty member of Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  Prior to that, she was a litigator in Chicago and in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Marilyn is a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington School of Law and Purdue University, studying at its Kranert School of Business majoring in both Finance and in Marketing.  She hails from Northwest, Indiana and now lives in downtown Chicago.  She has two children in college, one in Denver and one in Washington, D.C.
